CASE STUDIES

We are proud of the work we do and here are a few of our proudest moments.

Steam Resilience at PHE Porton Down

Limburn successfully completed two critical steam resilience projects at PHE Porton Down, ensuring operational efficiency and safety. The works involved extensive modifications to steam headers, condensate lines, and asbestos removal while delivering the project within budget and on time.

We undertook two simultaneous projects at PHE Porton Down to enhance steam system resilience. The Main Duct and Service Floor projects required complex modifications to existing steam mains, condensate lines, and compressed air systems. Both projects involved licensed asbestos removal and careful coordination with PHE’s maintenance contractor for steam system isolations. The team managed to deliver on time and within budget despite challenges, including working around redundant pipework and navigating difficult access points.

By adopting innovative solutions like fabricating aluminum step-overs in-house, we achieved cost savings and faster delivery.

The Brief

To enhance steam resilience across two critical areas: the Main Duct and Service Floor at PHE Porton Down. Both projects aimed to improve safety, streamline steam distribution, and future-proof the infrastructure.

The Challenge

The main challenges included modifying outdated infrastructure under licensed asbestos conditions and coordinating with PHE’s maintenance team to manage system isolations without interrupting critical operations. Additionally, complex access routes for pipework installation required innovative solutions.

The Solution

Limburn provided an open-book, collaborative approach to these projects. By fabricating step-overs from aluminium in-house and managing the logistics of complex pipe runs, we delivered cost-effective, timely solutions. Our proactive team worked weekends and adapted quickly to emerging challenges.
